Life With Pain – Tramadol Can Relieve Pain

A life lived with pain is not a happy life. Having to experience an unpleasant, possibly agonizing sensation, whether acute or chronic, is never something to look forward to. Such a feeling is a sign that tells the body that something is wrong. It tells that unless the source is fixed or eliminated, you will feel the horrible sensation that goes along with it.

There are certain health conditions that cause a person to feel constant pain as a reminder of its presence inside the body. Take for example cancer. Cancer is an atrocious disease that has already ruined millions of lives throughout the world. What’s worse is that the accompanying torture can not be relieved or even alleviated by your regular over-the-counter drugs.

Cancer needs strong analgesics to reduce the torture that a person feels. The neoplasm (the abnormal growth in cancer) is mainly the one responsible for the agony that cancer victims feel. This unwanted growth occupies space not meant for it, crowding the surrounding area and tormenting the hell out of its victim.

The agony is usually so intense that if doctors had their way, they would be dispensing narcotics for it. Unfortunately, these drugs are habit-forming and the risks for abuse are very high. Scientists are well aware of this potential for abuse with narcotics, so they developed a narcotic-like medication without the possibility of abuse. Specifically, the German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal GmbH was the one responsible for creating tramadol hydrochloride in the later part of the 1970s.

This drug can eliminate pain from moderate to severe without causing the same addictive effects as narcotics. It is synthetically made to have a weak affinity to mu-opioid receptors, about 6000 times weaker than other narcotics. And unlike its cousins, its affinity is strictly with the mu-opioid receptor and not with other types such as the delta and kappa. Another thing about this analgesic is that it is a prodrug. Being a prodrug means its effects are activated after it is metabolized.

By this time, the metabolites are released and now able to do their job. However, experts aren’t sure if it was intentionally made to be a prodrug or was discovered to be one after in-depth study following its creation. Furthermore, researchers aren’t sure if these factors help make this drug less habit-forming than other narcotics.

For chronic pain like that of the abovementioned disease, this narcotic-like analgesic makes a good treatment. It can be used for long-term therapy with fewer worries about abuse. This helps in alleviating the agony brought about by the disease and enable the person to function at least close to normal. It also works on other conditions like arthritis, damage from injury, recovery from surgery, and many more. With this drug, you do not have to suffer the torture brought about by some disease or condition. It was made to keep people from experiencing such unpleasant sensations. But it should not be taken irresponsibly because it does have its risks. Although there is no evidence for abuse, some recreational drug users have included this narcotic-like drug into their list but not among their favorites. Overdose can also kill. So take it exactly how your doctor prescribed, no more, no less.
